Death and Dignity

"Brittany Maynard and “Dying With Dignity”: Is there such a thing?"

"What I do believe is that as she took her last breath, God was watching over her, and when she died, it was God’s heart that was first to break." ~Dr. Scott Morris

This is old news, but a conversation that I believe will continue until Jesus comes back. How much dignity can we have in death?

I honestly believe that one's answer to that question is based on one's interpretation of Genesis 1-11. If death was part of the created order, then there is no dignity in death, nor is there humiliation. But if death, all death, is solely the result of the Fall, then death is deeply humiliating and the hope we have in Christ is just as deeply dignifying.

For myself, the Bible's attitude toward death and it's teachings on the glories of the resurrection are convincing evidence that physical death is unnatural and humiliating. But do we have the authority to take control over it and commit suicide in order to avoid that humiliation? Again, it all depends on one's interpretation of Genesis. Funny how everything goes back to the beginning....
